The AJC Seattle regional office works to advance global Jewish advocacy Initiatives to secure the welfare of the Jewish people and Israel, and to advance human rights and democratic values on the regional, national, and global fronts. We do this by activating Jewish lay leaders and building relationships with the local diplomatic corps, elected officials, multifaith and intergroup leaders.
The primary role of this position is to proactively assist with expanding our advocacy efforts with elected officials at the local, state and national level. Meeting with policy makers to support AJC’s mission, build coalitions within and outside the Jewish community. Produce and edit written materials (remarks, op-eds, letters to the editor, fact sheets and more). Monitoring legislative developments and elections with relevance to the Jewish community.
The Assistant Director, does all of this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.
Responsibilities will include some or all:
Community Relations:
• Work with the Director and lay leadership to establish and maintain relationships with important AJC constituencies including political, government, diplomatic, media, ethnic and religious groups.
• Represent AJC, as needed, at external meetings with partner agencies, in the community and on boards and speak publicly on behalf of AJC when requested.
• Establish and maintain relationships with important AJC constituencies in consultation with the Director.
• Stay abreast, and keep others informed, of news and analysis on issues of importance to AJC, including reading regional, national and international publications.

Program Development and Implementation
• Develop programs in collaboration with director and lay leadership; implement independently and collaboratively.
• Develop programs in collaboration with director and lay leadership; implement independently and collaboratively.
• Manage and coordinate all program logistics and details.
• Create and distribute all necessary marketing materials including invitations, flyers, emails, and event program.

Fundraising
• Assist Director and lay leadership with all aspects of fundraising.
• Assist with donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

Leadership Development
• Assist the Director in recruiting and cultivating leaders in the Jewish community for involvement with AJC.
• Work well with, motivate and support lay leadership.
• Recruit participants for national and regional programs.
• Guide and manage committees of lay leaders.
• Develop and help manage emerging leadership programs to attract the next generation of Jewish philanthropists and activists to be involved with AJC.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
• Excellent writing, critical thinking, and presentation skills; journalism, public relations or communications background highly preferred.
• Commitment to AJC’s mission and key advocacy areas such as combatting antisemitism and promoting human rights and multicultural understanding.
• Experience with elected officials or working on political campaigns, highly preferred
• Ability to problem solve creatively, diplomatically, and pragmatically within the organization and in the community.
• Availability to work beyond standard office hours when a situation presents.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000, depending on relevant experience.
